CfHF at WHGA Community Response Partner
New York, NY, April 14, 2020– The COVID-19 outbreak and the New York City pause has since increased residents’ need for basic goods. Communities for Healthy Foods (CfHF) at West Harlem Group Assistance, Inc. (WHGA) food hub will continue to serve the residents of West and Central Harlem on the frontline as a Community Response Partner (CRP) with the Food Bank of New York City.
In the month of March 2020, CfHF at WHGA was officially appointed as a Community Response Partner (CRP) by the Food Bank for New York City. CfHF at WHGA will serve West and Central Harlem as one of 20 citywide disaster relief hubs. The plan of action to follow includes the distribution of frozen and dry foods, ready-to-eat meals, PPE (personal protective equipment), baby products and pet food. The CfHF at WHGA food hub has served 6000 residents for the month of March. This includes the daily distribution of 300 to 600 ready-to-eat meals in collaboration with Red Rabbit.
“CfHF at WHGA will continue to work with other city stakeholders as part of our COVID-19 response action. Our goal is to be able to serve the maximum number that our hub in particular can fulfill. We anticipate that needs for the hub services will continue to increase as we brace for the implications and economic fallout of COVID-19,” shares WHGA Executive Director, Donald Notice.
The CfHF at WHGA food hub has since altered their plan of operation. The food hub will be open on every weekday from Monday to Friday to distribute food and other basic items. Drive-through distribution has also been implemented. Residents who are not registered with CfHF at WHGA are still eligible to receive service. All other services such as SNAP and WIC registration have been temporarily discontinued. Further details can be found on the website at www.whgainc.org
