WHGA’s Financial Planning and Homeownership Program empowers you to spend smarter, save more aggressively and achieve your financial goals by providing you with the tools and resources to build your wealth and assets. Our goal is to increase the economic viability and stability of Harlem. To do so, we have deeply considered the spectrum of financial shortcomings our communities have been facing and worked diligently to design the appropriate programs to set our clients on a path to financial control and freedom.

Since 1999, we have partnered with NYS Housing and Community Renewal, NYC Housing Preservation and Development as well as corporate sponsors to offer free financial education and counseling services to NYC residents.

Credit Resource Center

We provide workshops and one-on-one counseling services that expose you to the ways of winning the credit game. Our resources meet you where you are in your journey. We create customized financial plans that explain how your credit core is determined, actions you can take to reduce your debt and tips on how you can make your credit work for you when it’s time for large purchases.

 Budgeting & Banking Smarter

Selecting the right bank is like selecting the right partner. Your financial institution holds the responsibility of securing your money and helping you explore ways to make it grow. We help you consider all the factors that come with selecting the right financial institutions, including fees, rewards and savings. With our financial resources and partnerships, you can budget for the long haul.  Our counselor will work with you to draft up a budget for your household or small business and refer you to the best financial partners and social service resources to help you reach your goals.

Housing and Social Services

Access to affordable housing for NYC residents remains our number one priority. In order to maintain our vibrant and diverse community, we conduct workshops that educate low-to-moderate income families on how to navigate the housing process. Our topics cover the housing lottery, tenant’s rights, and landlord negotiations. We also work with you on obtaining assistance to avoid displacement.

First-Time Homebuyer Assistance

There is nothing we enjoy more than seeing you cross the finish line to homeownership in some of NYC’s most sought-after neighborhoods. We serve as your partner in this process by identifying the types of assistance you are eligible for and walking you through the steps to get you the keys to your dream home.
